Contemporary Project Series:
Danny Yahav-Brown: And Then They Danced
December 3, 2004 - February 27, 2005

The Contemporary Project Series is an annual awards and exhibition program designed for both emerging and established artists working in St. Louis. Danny Yahav-Brown’s work instills modest objects, intimate body gestures, and words with greater meaning than immediately apparent. His installation, And Then They Danced, consists of several small oscillating fans that cover the floor of the Contemporary’s lobby space. Attached to each fan is an empty plastic shopping bag animated by a stream of air. Yahav-Brown is interested in the language the bags employ, in particular their turgid expressions of gratitude and deference. According to Yahav-Brown, “And Then They Danced single-mindedly exposes everyday communication and its failure.”
