3RD ANNUAL
CITY-WIDE OPEN STUDIOS

The Contemporary is thrilled to present the 3rd Annual City-Wide Open Studios, a week-long event dedicated to the community of working artists in St. Louis. Free and open to the public, this event offers a unique opportunity to explore these creative spaces and enjoy one of the most exciting aspects of contemporary art—the chance to discuss art with the artists themselves. Last year, more than 90 artists invited the public into their studios in St. Louis City, University City, and Maplewood—some of St. Louis’s most diverse and vibrant neighborhoods.

If you are an artist and would like to register for Open Studios, please complete and submit the registration online, or download the pdf and mail it to the Contemporary, by May 23, 2008.

If your studio is in St. Louis City, University City, or Maplewood, you can participate by opening your doors to the public during the Open Studios weekend. An alternative space will be provided for a limited amount of artists with studios outside of these areas. Information on the alternative space can be obtained by contacting openstudios@contemporarystl.org. All participating studios will be included in the Official Map published by the Contemporary and available online after July 1.

To help bring visitors to your studio, the Contemporary will provide publicity materials, signage, the Official Map, and press coverage. The Contemporary will designate if your studio will be opened on Saturday, July 19, or Sunday, July 20, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Artists are required to be in their studios the entire period assigned to them.

Artists are responsible for insurance coverage in their own studios. Please make sure your space is free of hazards and is safe for visitors. In order to protect your property and yourself, please take the following precautions: ask a friend to sit with you, do not leave your space unattended, and conceal expensive tools and items.

The Contemporary asks that you loan one piece of your art work to the museum for the week-long preview exhibition.

We are really looking forward to an exciting week that will connect St. Louis with its artist community. We hope you will join us in this celebration.

Please visit the Open Studios website and/or our calendar for more event information.
