The Contemporary is thrilled to present the 3rd Annual City-Wide Open Studios, a week-long event dedicated to the community of working artists in St. Louis. Free and open to the public, this event offers a unique opportunity to explore these creative spaces and enjoy one of the most exciting aspects of contemporary art—the chance to discuss art with the artists themselves. Last year, more than 90 artists invited the public into their studios in St. Louis City, University City, and Maplewood—St. Louis’s most diverse and vibrant neighborhoods.

Artists are again eager to share their work with their community. There is no fee and no reservations are required to visit these private spaces and to discover creativity behind closed doors. Members of the public can pick up a map of participating artist studios one week prior to the event at the Contemporary, or they can download it from the Contemporary’s website, or from the Open Studios website. Each stop on the map will introduce you to artists working in a wide range of media—oil, watercolors, photography, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, glass, and metal, and other visual and performance arts. This is the perfect opportunity to meet the artists firsthand and explore work that is both familiar and new.

Join us at the Contemporary for a preview party, complete with an exhibition highlighting the participating artists. Or visit openstudiosonline.org for an interactive site that previews the artists’ works and features a blog allowing participating artists and the public to discuss Open Studios and the St. Louis art scene.

The annual Starving Artists BBQ Celebration will be held at the Contemporary immediately following Sunday’s Open Studios. This is the perfect time to relax and share new knowledge gained during this special day with friends, family, and participating artists. The BBQ will take place in the Courtyard at the Contemporary, and tickets are $15 per person. Purchase your tickets online here.

Go to www.openstudiosonline.org to view artists, for more information, and to download the map for the two days.
