The Contemporary Challenge Endowment Campaign

Thanks to a generous $5.4 million challenge gift from Emily Rauh Pulitzer, the Contemporary has a unique opportunity to increase its permanent endowment to ensure the long-term financial stability of the organization. Building the Contemporary's endowment fund is an integral part of planning for the future. Earnings generated by the endowment will be used to help support the operating costs of the museum as well as its exhibitions and educational programming for the St. Louis community.

We have already raised $4.2 million for our endowment and need to raise an additional $800,000 by June 30, 2007 to meet Pulitzer's Challenge and receive the remaining $2.4 million of her gift. Once we raise the final $800,000 for our endowment, we will receive an additional $2.4 million -
a 3-to-1 match! We need your help to meet the Contemporary Challenge!

Endowment gifts come in all sizes and every gift is important to helping us secure a stable financial future for the Contemporary. To make a gift to the Endowment, click here, or contact Lisa Grove, Deputy Director and Director of Development at (314) 535-0770, x206 or lisa.grove@contemporarystl.org.

Endowment Giving Opportunities and Donor Recognition
The Contemporary Challenge Endowment Campaign provides a variety of opportunities for individuals, foundations, and businesses to support the mission of the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis. Tax-deductible contributions may take the form of cash; pledges; donations of securities, tangible personal property, and real estate; and bequests and other types of planned giving.

All contributions will be acknowledged publicly unless anonymity is requested. All donors of $1,000 or more will be recognized permanently on permanent signage in the lobby of the museum. The campaign also provides opportunities for donors of major gifts to receive ongoing recognition for contributing to designated endowment funds and to endow staff positions.

There are several ways to donate to the Contemporary's permanent endowment:

1. General Operating Endowment Fund. Undesignated endowment gifts provide the most flexible way to support the Contemporary's ongoing programming and operations. Because of this, all undesignated endowment gifts will be placed in the Contemporary's General Operating Endowment.

2. Endowed Positions. Key professional staff positions may be named to honor donors of the endowment amounts specified here. Endowment earnings will be used to help underwrite salaries and professional development expenses. Example: The John Doe Family Executive Director, Paul Ha or The Smith Foundation Director of Education, Kathryn Adamchick.

3. Designated Endowment Funds. Donors may also contribute to several designated endowment funds that support the Contemporary's core mission, such as our Exhibitions Fund or our Education Fund. Gifts of any size may be designated towards an endowment fund and multiple donors may contribute to each fund. Donors of $25,000 or more will be recognized in perpetuity in publicity associated with their donations. Example: The Contemporary's education program is underwritten in part by major endowments established by the John Doe Family and the Smith Foundation.

Other Gift Opportunities
Campaign personnel are also available to help donors tailor commemorative giving opportunities specific to individual needs.
