THE COLLECTIBLES (April 7 – June 11, 2006)

The exhibition The Collectibles will feature the latest and hottest artist-designed products. Organized in conjunction with the exhibition St. Louis Collects, this companion exhibition will encourage the collector in all of us to purchase affordable objects dreamed up by some of the world’s most famous contemporary artists. The exhibition will reflect the infinite commercial possibilities for artist designed marketable fare: action figures, salt and pepper shakers, soccer balls, pillows, skateboards, lamps, and dessert sets, among others. Looking at companies like Parkett, Cerealart, and Robot Love, among others, The Collectibles will present both limited and un-limited editions from across the globe. Featured artists will include the established creators Pipolotti Rist, Takashi Murakami, Marcel Dzama, Laurie Simmons, Rikrit Tiravanija, Tobias Wong, Yayoi Kusama and also introduce an emerging generation who are making Collectibles such a hot commodity and the act of ‘getting them while you can’ such a sought after activity— and a great addition to any art lover’s collection. The exhibition will be playful, witty, and present the novelty of the newly novel. The exhibition will feature work from companies and collaborative that blur the boundaries between high and low culture. Curated by Shannon Fitzgerald, Chief Curator, the Contemporary
