NEW ART IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

New Art is a pre-professional, scholarship-based training program for high school students.

Students meet on twelve Saturdays from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Weekly lessons introduce students to new media and contemporary issues while working closely with local and internationally-known artists. The curriculum is based on the exhibitions at the Contemporary Art Museum and challenges students to adapt to the materials used at the forefront of art today. New Art students enjoy working with a diverse group of teens who share a mutual passion for art making.

Each semester twenty students from metro St. Louis and beyond are accepted into the program and receive a full-scholarship and supplies. Students entering grades 9 through 12 are eligible to apply. Application deadlines are June 15 and November 15. Students may apply for one or both semesters.

The fall 2008 semester will focus on new media, including photography and video. The winter 2009 semester will focus on sculpture and 3-D installation.

New Art is generously supported by Emerson, the Employee Community Fund of Boeing St. Louis, and Macy’s Foundation.

We are now accepting applications for fall semester of New Art.
